Addition of Ranajoy Basu continues recent transatlantic financial services expansion across private capital, funds, financial regulation and debt finance specialties.
(LONDON – July 21, 2025) – Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that Ranajoy Basu will join the firm’s London office as partner in the Financial Services Practice Group where, he will serve as Global Head of Structured Finance and Head of the firm’s India practice. He joins from McDermott Will & Emery where he was Head of Structured Finance and Chair of the India practice.
Mr. Basu is a highly experienced global finance lawyer, focusing on all types of structured finance arrangements. He is also recognized as a pioneer in impact investment and a leading lawyer for cross-border social impact finance structures, sustainable procurement, and supply chain finance.
Jim Barresi, global head of the Financial Services Practice Group, said: “We are delighted Ranajoy has joined us. He has an outstanding record of successfully advising leading financial institutions and alternative capital sources on complex, cross-border transactions. He is also well known for ground-breaking work in impact investment. Ranajoy is ideally placed to lead our structured finance work, and he fits seamlessly with some of our new team members who have already increased our ability to add value to clients in specialized practice areas and on a global basis.”
The addition follows a series of recent lateral partner additions to the firm’s Financial Services practice, including global head Private Capital and Direct Lending Gabriel Yomi Dabiri and a corresponding team in New York and Washington DC; global head of Financial Regulation Monica Gogna and a corresponding team in London and funds specialist Cassandra W. Borchers in the US.
Barresi continued, “We have been working for over a year to update our strategic plan and recruit the right people to help us add more value to clients in key areas on which we are focused. We now have momentum and expect to see more focused and thoughtful growth.”

Mr. Basu has almost two decades’ experience of advising clients, from global financial institutions, funds, and non-bank lenders to private equity firms and corporates, on complex structured finance transactions in multiple jurisdictions. His focus includes private capital, securitisation, asset-backed finance (including digital technology and data financing), debt capital markets and debt restructurings.
Mr. Basu is also a pioneer in cross-border social impact finance, including social and development impact bonds, renewable energy and “green” structured finance transactions. He has advised governments, NGOs, financial institutions, funds, foundations, and charitable institutions around the world on numerous projects.
