Leading global private financial group for the middle market bolsters Upper Midwest presence with senior leadership addition in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
SAN FRANCISCO, NOVEMBER 2023 – US Capital Global, a leading global private financial group for the middle market, is excited to announce the appointment of Steven J. Barton as Senior Vice President to lead its newly established office in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With nearly three decades of experience across private equity, wealth management, commercial banking, and consulting, Mr. Barton brings a wealth of expertise to fortify the group’s investment banking division in the Upper Midwestern region of the United States.
Headquartered in San Francisco with principal offices in Dallas, Philadelphia, Miami, New York, London, Milan, Zurich, and Dubai, US Capital Global is a full-service global private financial group with an established track record in corporate finance, asset management, and capital formation services. All private placements, securities, and other related services are offered by the group’s FINRA-member broker-dealer affiliate, US Capital Global Securities LLC.
Prior to joining US Capital Global, Mr. Barton opened the Minneapolis office of Brightwood Capital, a $5 billion private equity firm based in New York City that provided debt and non-dilutive equity capital to US-based companies with EBITDA of $10 million to $75 million through senior or junior secured, unitranche and mezzanine credit facilities. Transactions ranged from $10 million to over $250 million, primarily in healthcare, technology, franchising, business services, and transportation/logistics.
Mr. Barton is also the founder of Waterford Group Consulting LLC, headquartered in Minneapolis. Established in 2005, the firm specializes in business performance and strategic planning, offering advisory services to family-owned enterprises spanning diverse industries. Recent international engagements include connecting US med-tech firms with the Changzhou International Investment Promotion Centre in Jiangsu, China.
Mr. Barton currently serves as a Board Director and Audit Committee member at Unity Banking Group, overseeing regulatory compliance for this $600 million financial institution. In this role, he provides oversight of a multi-state bank charter with 16 branches across the Midwest and Western USA, specializing in commercial and agriculture lending, including vineyard financing in California.
Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role at US Capital Global, Mr. Barton stated, “I am extremely pleased to join US Capital Global and lead the group’s new office in Minneapolis. US Capital Global is at an inflection point in its growth in the United States and internationally, venturing into new verticals and providing a complete array of innovative financial solutions. I am delighted to support the organization’s success from its new office in Minneapolis.”
Charles Towle, COO and Managing Partner at US Capital Global, commented on the appointment, saying, “I am extremely pleased to welcome Steve aboard as Senior Vice President, as we continue to expand our footprint across the United States and globally. Steve is a seasoned executive with nearly three decades of experience in private equity, wealth management, commercial banking, and consulting. He is a valuable addition to our growing team of financial professionals.”
During his tenure as Director at BMO Wealth Management, Bank of Montreal, Mr. Barton spearheaded business development and client management in trust services, wealth management, and middle market commercial lending. His strategic initiatives led to the creation of significant wealth management relationships and over $300 million in commercial real estate loans. Previously, Mr. Barton served as a Senior Private Client Advisor at Bank of the West, a BNP Paribas-owned entity, where he managed a $300 million fixed income account and organically expanded the Minneapolis office. His earlier roles included prominent positions at TCF Bank, Wells Fargo Private Client Services, UBS Financial Services, and Piper Jaffray Incorporated.
