NEW YORK, August 14, 2023: Morgan Lewis is bolstering its commercial real estate finance bench with the addition of former Stroock & Stroock & Lavan partner Michael (Mike) McCarthy. Arriving as a partner resident in New York, Mike will continue to advise institutional lenders, borrowers, and investors on a variety of commercial real estate finance and related matters.
“Clients turn to us to facilitate a variety of real estate transactions to meet their strategic business goals,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Mike’s keen grasp of capital markets and history overseeing all manner of real estate deals will be important to clients in need of trusted counsel in these matters.”
Mike’s arrival at Morgan Lewis reunites him with a team of transactional restructuring and bankruptcy colleagues with whom he collaborates closely.
Mike handles transactions involving a wide range of property types, including office, industrial, residential, multi-family, retail, hospitality, and mixed-use properties. He represents clients in the acquisition and disposition of real estate, including the formation of joint ventures. Mike further advises clients on real estate capital markets transactions such as repurchase facilities for both borrowers and lenders.
“Mike not only adds depth to our bench of real estate finance practitioners, he brings longstanding relationships that will allow us to expand the scope of work that we do for some of the largest clients we already have in common,” said Jonathan Bernstein, leader of the firm’s finance practice. “As activity in the distressed real estate space increases and clients turn to the firm for counsel, we are thrilled to welcome an experienced practitioner such as Mike to the team.”
