Lending Against Inventory In-Transit

Inventory in transit can represent significant collateral value, but it also presents unique legal, operational, and credit challenges. This interactive course equips secured finance professionals with the practical knowledge needed to evaluate, structure, and monitor loans secured by both domestic and foreign inventory in transit.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Evaluate the opportunities and risks associated with lending against inventory in transit.
  • Distinguish between domestic and foreign in-transit inventory and the documentation that supports each.
  • Understand bills of lading, title transfer, and the timing of lien perfection under the UCC.
  • Identify key risks involving vendors, carriers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
  • Structure transactions using appropriate documentation, including tri-party agreements and insurance protections.
  • Apply practical underwriting, monitoring, and collateral control strategies through real-world examples.
