NEW YORK (April 13, 2026) Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP today announced that John Cahill has joined the firm as a partner in its New York office, where he will be a key member of the Finance, Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice group. A recognized authority in real estate finance and private capital markets, Cahill brings an institutional transactional practice with deep roots in both domestic and cross-border matters, including significant experience across Asia.
“John operates at a level that elevates everyone around him,” said New York Office Managing Partner Tracy Bacigalupo. “His practice spans some of the most complex transactions in the market, and the way he works — across offices, across borders, across disciplines — is precisely what drives the kind of client relationships we are building in New York.”
Cahill advises on the full spectrum of real estate financing matters, with particular depth in the back-leverage market, fund formation, and structured credit. He represents major financial institutions, private equity sponsors, and institutional investors across a broad range of domestic and cross-border transactions. A significant component of his practice has been built across Asia — including Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, China, and Korea — where he has advised on the formation of real estate private equity funds, capital raising, and related M&A activity.
"The most sophisticated financial markets work today demands presence where capital is raised and where it’s deployed. John understands that, and his practice reflects it,” said Financial Services Sector Co-Leader and Finance, Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group Co-Leader Taber Cathcart, who is based in Charlotte. “The clients he serves are the same institutional players that have made Charlotte one of the country’s most important financial centers, and that alignment creates a powerful opportunity for our platform.”
Finance, Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group Co-Leader Chad Caby added: “Real estate finance rarely stays in one lane, and neither does John. His ability to move fluidly across asset classes and capital structures, from joint ventures to structured credit, means our clients gain a counselor whose capabilities match the full arc of their needs.”
A double Fordham graduate, Cahill completed his undergraduate studies and earned his J.D. from the University’s School of Law. He joins Womble from White & Case LLP.
This addition reflects continued growth across the Finance, Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice group. Earlier this year, the firm welcomed a 36-person Consumer Financial Services team focused on regulatory, compliance, and licensing matters for banks, fintech companies, and other consumer-facing financial institutions.
