Winston & Strawn represented Hecate Energy LLC (Hecate), a leading developer, owner, and operator of renewable power projects and storage solutions in North America and select international markets, in connection with a sale of 40 percent minority interest to global energy powerhouse, Repsol, a Spanish energy and petrochemical company. The transaction marks Repsol’s entry and expansion into the U.S. renewables market. Hecate’s already geographically diverse assets include projects in the North American electricity regions of PJM Interconnection, the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), and the Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC). Our client intends to direct its new investment toward a robust portfolio of projects currently under development across the United States, including 16.8 GW of solar project and energy storage at advanced stages of development.
