2026 Fall Lending Against Inventory In-Transit

Description
Inventory in transit can represent significant collateral value, but it also presents unique legal, operational, and credit challenges. This interactive course provides asset-based lenders with the knowledge and practical tools needed to evaluate, structure, and monitor loans secured by both domestic and foreign inventory in transit.
Participants will gain a clear understanding of the risks, documentation requirements, and best practices associated with this specialized collateral, including:
- Evaluating the benefits and risks of lending against inventory in transit
- Understanding the differences between domestic and foreign in-transit inventory
- Reviewing negotiable and non-negotiable bills of lading and other shipping documents
- Determining when title transfers and when a lender's security interest is perfected
- Identifying potential risks related to vendors, carriers, and shipment interruptions
- Understanding the roles of freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other key parties
- Reviewing the importance of tri-party agreements and other risk mitigation strategies
- Considering insurance requirements and additional documentation to protect the lender's collateral position
- Discussing practical underwriting, monitoring, and collateral control considerations through real-world examples
