CHICAGO—October 1, 2026—Winston Taylor announced today that Michael Frisch has joined the firm as a partner in its Financial Innovation & Regulation Practice and Digital Assets Group in Chicago.
Mike counsels clients on regulatory compliance, investigations, and enforcement matters involving digital assets, cryptocurrency, and Web3 businesses. He first developed his experience in digital assets at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), where he served as a senior trial attorney in the Division of Enforcement. There, he investigated and litigated alleged violations of the Commodity Exchange Act and worked on several significant cryptocurrency enforcement matters, including some of the CFTC’s first cryptocurrency enforcement actions. Since then, Mike has gained extensive private practice experience advising a wide range of clients in the digital assets space, including CFTC registrants, DeFi projects, DAOs, investors, and other market participants.
A recognized leader in Chicago’s digital assets community, Mike co-founded the Illinois Blockchain Association and previously served as Chairperson of the Public Policy and Regulation Committee of the Global Digital Asset and Cryptocurrency Association.
Earlier in his career, Mike served as senior advisor and legal counsel to former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, advising city leadership on legal, policy, and labor issues. Mike also clerked for the Hon. Robert Dow in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
“Winston Taylor has built a leading digital assets team with integrated regulatory, transactional, litigation, and enforcement capabilities,” Mike said. “I’m excited to join the firm and collaborate with my new colleagues, many of whom I’ve known and worked with for years, across its global platform on these rapidly evolving issues.”
“Mike has developed a sophisticated digital assets practice that aligns with the complex transactional and regulatory issues our clients are navigating,” said Daniel Stabile, chair of Winston Taylor’s Digital Assets Group. “His experience complements the strength of our existing platform and deepens our ability to help clients across the digital assets ecosystem. We look forward to having him on the team.”
“Mike’s arrival reflects our continued commitment to investing in areas where our clients are facing new opportunities and challenges,” added William O’Neil, Chicago Office Managing Partner. “We are pleased to welcome him to the firm and look forward to the contributions he will make to our clients and our Chicago office.”
