KKR announced it published its Q3 credit investor letter by Co-Head of Credit & Markets, Christopher Sheldon and Tal Reback. Titled “Let There be Compute”, the letter focuses on the AI buildout and its impact on global credit and capital markets. Key takeaways include:

• The Capital Mix Needs to Grow and Broaden. The $8T of capex required for the global AI buildout cannot be met through traditional public equity and debt markets alone and will require significant new capital formation to sustain growth. This also means a broader mix of financing sources across private IG, ABF, infrastructure debt, structured solutions and new structures that may not even exist yet.

• Credit quality only gets you so far and structural protections are key. This is why having specialized expertise across infrastructure, real estate, credit and equity is important to underwriting this opportunity.

• Disciplined Deployment is essential. Because the opportunity is so large, you need a high level of deployment discipline to remain flexible and able to lean in when volatility or other catalysts create attractive opportunities.

• Diversification is Tricky: The AI ecosystem is highly interdependent and exposures that appear distinct often depend on the same counterparties, infrastructure, revenue streams and economic outcomes.  Because of this, diversification can be challenging and concentration can look very different depending on the lens you’re using to evaluate it.
