Howard Brownstein Named Fellow of American Bar Foundation

The Brownstein Corporation is pleased to announce that its CEO, Howard Brod Brownstein, has been named a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. 

The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation (ABF) comprise a global honorary society of lawyers, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the profession and service to society.  Membership is limited to one percent of the lawyers admitted to practice in the United States and its territories, and to a limited number of lawyers in international jurisdictions.  ABF is recognized as a leading institute for the empirical study of law in the United States, and conducts cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research that addresses critical questions at the intersection of law and society. 

Although Howard Brownstein does not actively practice law, he maintains his admissions to the bars of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Florida.  His role as President of The Brownstein Corporation, a leading nationally-active turnaround management and restructuring firm, regularly involves legal processes, and close collaboration with law firms throughout the country, as well as appearance in federal and state courtrooms as both an expert and fact witness.  He is been active in the American Bar Association for many years, both initially when he served as the representative of the ABA Law Student Division to the Business Law Section Council, and currently, serving as Vice Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee of the ABA Business Law Section. 

Mr. Brownstein has served as an independent corporate board director for over 40 years.  In addition to serving on the board of Renew Financial where he chairs its Risk and Operating Committees, and the board of P&F Industries (NasdaqGM: PFIN)where he, chairs its Strategic Planning & Risk Assessment and Nominating & Governance Committees, he also serves on the board of Merakey, a leading nonprofit provider of education and human services to individuals with special needs, with more than 10,000 employees providing care to 40,000 adults and children in eight states and an annual budget over $600Mil. 

Mr. Brownstein previously served on the boards of:  A.M. Castle & Co. (OTCMKTS: CASL), a multinational metals distributor and supply chain solutions provider; PICO Holdings (Nasdaq: PICO), a diversified holding company with investments in water resources and real estate; LMG2, a parking infrastructure company in downtown Chicago; Betsey Johnson LLC, a well-known designer and retailer of women’s apparel; Special Metals Corp. (Audit Chair), a $1Bil basic metals producer; Magnatrax Corp., a $500Mil pre-engineered buildings manufacturer; and the National Philanthropic Trust (Chair), the largest independent provider of donor-advised funds.  He also served on the boards of a regional bank, a retail department store, and nonprofit boards including serving as chair of a United Way agency.

Howard Brownstein has been named a Board Leadership Fellow by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), and served as President of the NACD Philadelphia Chapter.  He received J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Harvard University, and B.S. and B.A. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.
