In Conversation With
Teun Struycken, Former Lawyer and Former Government Minister in conversation with Richard Hawkins, Senior Advisor, Atlantic RMS a Gordon Brothers Company.
A conversation with  Teun Struycken,  leading corporate and restructuring Lawyer, well known within the SFNet community and former Dutch Government Minister, on what it is like to move from a very successful legal career into politics.

In Conversation with Richard Hawkins, Senior Advisor with Gordon Brothers, Teun will reflect on his decision to leave the legal world for public office, and the lived experiences and challenges of being part of the government.

The discussion will also explore how insolvency and restructuring legislation is shaped in practice, including how market participants can meaningfully engage in the reform process “what can I do for them?” Teun will comment on how domestic policymaking increasingly connects to the wider EU landscape for business and private capital.

The session will close with reflections on recent Dutch insolvency law developments, including Teun’s perspective on the adoption and expected impact of the Bill on the ban on assignment and consider the future direction of European legal reform.

Panel: Cross-border Structuring & Execution
Join a team of experts in cross border ABL deal execution with representation from Advisors, Lenders and Lawyers.

The discussion will focus on the commercial and legal practicalities that determine how to close smoothly or stall: jurisdictional risk, collateral packages, intercreditor dynamics, regulatory constraints, and certainty of execution. Panelists will compare how different capital providers assess risk, price complexity, and balance flexibility with control, offering candid insight into what works, what doesn’t, and what it takes to execute successfully across borders.

Speakers:
Paula Laird, Partner, Squire Patton Boggs
Lynn Li, Director Origination, Financing Solutions, ABN AMRO
Ludovic Beukers, Partner, Capital & Debt Advisory, EY

Breakouts
Smaller roundtable-style conversations on the legal subjects that matter most. Participate in two x 40-minute conversations of your choice:
  • Liability Management Exercises – Key Considerations for Secured Lenders: This session will explore the evolving landscape of liability management exercises (LMEs) and their impact on secured lenders. We will examine common LME structures and discuss how they can alter priority, collateral packages, and recovery prospects. The discussion will focus on practical strategies for protecting lender positions, navigating intercreditor dynamics, and responding to borrower-led transactions in stressed or distressed scenarios. Hosted by Marc Orval, Partner and Saskia Heumakers, Partner, NautaDutilh
  • Pledge on Receivables: The Dutch secured lending landscape is undergoing significant reform. We will discuss the Act on the Abolition of the Prohibition of Pledging (Wet opheffing verpandingsverboden) that entered into force, removing longstanding contractual restrictions on the pledging of receivables. But new legislation is also on the horizon. We will address the Draft Act on the Modernisation of Pledge and Assignment Law (Voorontwerp Wet modernisering pandrecht en cessie): how will these changes transform financing practices in the Netherlands. Hosted by Jako van Hees, Of Counsel and Janneke de Goeij, Partner, NautaDutilh
  • Navigating CRD V1: what it means for the European secured lending market - As Europe's regulatory framework continues to evolve under Capital Requirements Directive VI, cross-border lending is entering a new phase. As non-EU lenders may need to recalibrate their approach to lending into Europe, what challenges and opportunities open-up to EU lenders and the EU market in general?
